Behavior Change Campaigns

Changing Perceptions, Preventing Harm

Drug-impaired driving is an increasingly serious safety issue in New Mexico, especially as cannabis and prescription medications become more common in everyday life. Many drivers assume that because cannabis and prescription medications are legal, that they’relegal to drive on, that they don’t affect driving, or they can compensate by being more careful. Behavior change campaigns are essential to correcting these misunderstandings and helping people recognize that any substance that impairs judgement, reaction time, or coordination makes driving unsafe and illegal.

These campaigns focus on behavior change strategies and address the myths, reinforcing personal responsibility and setting a good example, and encouraging people to look out for each other. Drugged driving campaigns work to reduce risk and build a shared expectation that impaired driving, no matter the substance, is not acceptable on New Mexico’s roads.
